    Wedding music

    If anyone should be interested

Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton are pleased to announce the music for their Wedding Service.  The music has a largely British theme. The Couple have put considerable thought into selecting the music, and their choices blend traditional music with some newly commissioned pieces.

Oh dear, oh dear, a new commission from John Rutter . What a pity.

The piece from Gloriana helps to make up for it, I suppose, but that's before the ceremony, not during it.

Hardly a good omen for a 'modern' generation of royals! I love Parry, but couldn't something original be found? Let's hope the piece by Paul Mealor is worth waiting for.
(Probably worth using the Rutter as a chance to put the kettle on or get some fresh air.)

It is to be used either at the Entrance of the Bride or at the Signing of the Register.
I don't know its exact date of composition, but as it was copyrighted in 1938 I am doubtful whether it were written for a royal wedding.

Oh well, could be worse - I feared a dose of the Lord Lloyd Webber sung by Russell Watson

Let's hope it's Rutter in "What sweeter music" mode rather than "La la la la on the way to Bethlehem" pass-me-the-sickbag mode...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

It could have been Jenkins or even Einaudi

Well I'm really glad they are having Cwm Rhondda - it'll be just like being at a rugby match!

Oh, very funny Roehre. No, I meant we'll all know the words to Bread of Heaven so we can sing along!! I don't know the Welsh composer Paul Mealor at all, so that will be interesting.

Anna, Cwm Rhondda can be sung in Welsh .
Though living in North Wales, and Mr Mealor stemming from nearby Angelsey/Ynys Mon -the BBC Wales News told us-, I am afraid I haven't a clue either who he is and what he has composed

EDIT: I've just checked, and it's not currently available. It's the t-mobile advert that you may have already seen - One's Life Is For Sharing.

                              The music looks very good.

Lovely orchestral pieces before the service, hymns and music afterwards.

I see they have tried to placate Sir Peter Maxwell Davies who was a bit miffed that he didn't get the new commission.

The piece by Patrick Hadley is a favourite of mine although the words have innuendo that could seem a bit inappropriate for a wedding service!! It is a piece for springtime and after Easter. I don't know, however, whether the Winter could be said to be past considering today's chilly winds and yesterday's snow and hail in parts of the country.

The musical snobbery surrounding John Rutter never ceases to amaze me. He is a fine composer and does what he does extremely well and is very popular as a result and we should at least get a tuneful piece thank God. Rutter at his best is terrific. St Albans have just released his Gloria, Magnificat and Te Deum on Naxos. Absolutely stunning stuff and selling like hot cakes. I am extremely glad that he has been honoured with the new commission for this prestigious occasion. Well done WA.

I am looking forward to all.
