Another English hymn tune named after the Cotswold village called Guiting Power in Gloucestershire UK.I first heard it being sung by the Methodist Gathering ...

For those who haven't a clue what or where Guiting Power is, see and listen above.

I wouldn't want to comment on the tune.................

            Maybe a home-grown one?

You're right, ardcarp. Descant by C Harrison, late of Lincoln and now of Chichester.

Well done Lincoln. A well and sincerely sung CE. Apart from Matthew's responses, it was tried and tested repertory, stuff the trebles probably like and can get their teeth into. Sensible early in the term. And didn't Lincoln's organ sound so right accompanying Noble and Stanford? The psalms were lovely too, especially charming in the markedly differing timbres of Dec and Can. And I thought Matthew Martin's responses (come back please...... if you've gone, that is) were one of the best recent sets I've heard...again, affectingly sung; especially the Lord/Christ/Lord have mercy upon us. I had to suppress a giggle in the albeit beautifully said prayers. At one point where various ex-Bishops, Saints and other Good Eggs were being listed I was reminded of the readings from the list of Huntingdonshire Coachmen. (Was that Michael Bentine in It's a Square World?)
                Oh get thee behind me

I was just wondering why my comment above was deleted?

Yes, meant to remark on responses too. Carefully done and fitted so well into the tapestry of the service which I thought nicely planned.
