Bumping this thread in anticipation of this afternoon's live broadcast: one of my favourite canticle settings.

Much enjoyed this CE in Passiontide. Singing along to psalm 88 I had a strong association with the depth of Christ's suffering on the cross. Many thanks, Southwell choirs, Rector Chori, organist and clergy.

Strong back rows supported the enthusiastic attack of the top line, especially in the canticles. The intercessions appropriately focussed on addressing the many world problems through the Passion. Thank you everyone at Southwell.

Able to listen for once, and I thought that the introductions were just about right, and not overly gushy.
Difficult to pitch right into the Poulenc, but it, and the rest of the service, worked well as a whole.
Nice to see that the Rector is a Provost.

I agree with what you say, Pulc.
The Poulenc was a tough ask for an exposed solo treble with which to start the whole service, but they had more than found their feet by the opening of the Gloucester. It was a great musical feast overall and spurs me on to return to the beautiful minster which I've not been back to since Paul Hale's day... seems like only yesterday he was inaugurating their two organs including very effective digital 32' stops few years apart. Was this service in the quire or nave? - guessing the former.
Mention in despatches must go to Jonathan Allsopp for terrific accompaniments throughout and the Durufle. Particularly lovely was the plainchant office hymn, reminiscent of the old AWW approach at Ely that fellow-boarder here Roger J used to play.
