I have a dim memory of the occasional sung Compline in a late slot. But in English I think. Did this happen? Why not a Latin version occasionally? Better than Horlicks, I suggest.

But I wonder why they decided on the reconstructed Classical pronunciation of Latin for the readings, though they're using the Italian pronunciation for the sung parts.

Part-reconstructed, I think - e.g. I didn't notice a "weewee-ficabuntur". But the homily ducked out of such hot issues entirely!

Did anyone actually listen to the singing? The acoustics were very tight (it's a small chapel I think) but the choir was I thought quite wonderful. Precise and musical.

A bit relentless to my ears, and I love Victoria with a lifelong passion.
Fast, very English sounding, very much the modern way, pretty well everything sung at breakneck speed and never less than mf. The more I listened, the more it sounded like the junior BBC Singers. Which may be a kind of compliment.

Well, I thought it was wonderful.

I probably didn't reply earlier to say so because I was grinding my teeth in frustration that we have to rely on Anglicans for a good Tridentine Vespers.

I didn't think it sounded psrticularly modern or un-Catholic. Indeed it was only the odd pronunciation of the Latin in the readings that jolted me into remembering where it was coming from.
