Are they singing all 4 Poulenc motets?

Copied from the R3 website; their own website seems to have last term's services still posted.

Found this link to their 2 Epiphany services which mentions the 4 motets, but the rest of the music is different to the CE broadcast - aimed at a different congregation evidently.

They are singing all four according to their own services booklet. It doesn't take much more than 11 minutes, and I can think of plenty of single anthems sung at Evensong which are longer than that.

I'll look forward to that, although it may have to be the Sunday repeat, the listing for which which I see in the schedules has been simply cut and pasted, unedited, from the Wednesday listing , so wrong day and date and no mention of "recorded on", although the little (R) does appear on the whole day summary schedule.

The set of four were sung during communion last Sunday in Truro Cathedral (as the current DoM at St John's used to do).

The Johnson Manning responses nicely complemented the Poulenc, not only the harmonic language but in the contrasts of mood, by turns smooth then dramatic. The choir seems very confident in its sound and personality; the best I’ve heard under CG. The treble sound has the traditional punch and edge I’m used to hearing at St John’s plus their trademark tenderness. Very satisfying CE crowned with a stunning voluntary.

Very much agree with jonfan! Good to hear the Gipps canticles again - last occasion was at John's last Autumn when, the choir was joined by the Truro girls. This was the last broadcast with the Mander organ as, according to their music list, work starts next month to replace it. Have seen some details on the H&H website - will provide a link in the organ subforum.

Liturgically there was a certain hedging of bets between Epiphany (the Poulenc) and Candlemas (for example the spoken introduction, Collect and readings). If you'd rather not anticipate Candlemas, I suggest waiting for the Sunday repeat.

Although I notice there isn't even the little R on the online schedule now, so it is being listed completely as 'Live', but with the 'Music Played' showing the CPE Bach fill in, and two broadcasts - today and last Wednesday. As I've wondered before, is this beta AI or is a person being paid to post such misinformation online?

Maybe the intern is now being funded by the Musk Foundation.

A very fine performance of Wid's canticles, I thought. The best I've heard to date anyway. The Poulenc motets were hugely enjoyable too. Nice balance and blend from the choir. I didn't like the occasional eeeeeeeeeelongated syllables in the psalms though. I don't mind stresses, but these were overdone for my taste and the acoustic doesn't demand them.
