Disappointed that after waiting so long for 15th Evening to come along again for CE broadcast, Manchester give us but a third of Ps 78, and that missing out all the juicy bits . The lessons lasted twice as long!

Did they miss out the environmental catastrophe bits? I've just read the KJV and Vs 44 to 50 seem very topical!

I was delighted to recognise the voluntary from a old Argo LP of Simon Preston: 'English Organ Music' which I bought as a schoolboy for the Elgar sonata on the other side. This was the first time I'd heard music by Kennet Leighton, Frank Bridge or Herbert Howells .

Leighton's responses appear fairly regularly, as do Herbert Howells Coll. Reg. canticles but I don't think either he or Frank Bridge appeared in this service?

Lusty, attacking, committed singing of a challenging music list. I enjoyed the ride. Understandable to abbreviate Psalm 78 if other programmed items are to get a chance within the hour. The whole psalm was done at York a few years back that is now in my collection-an outstanding experience

Quite right , oddoneout. I was referring to the Argo LP! Leighton's Peaen, played as the CE voluntary, was the first ttrack on side 2. The other items were

Adagio in E (Bridge). at the time, one of only two short pieces by him in the catalogue.

              Rhapsody no. 3 (Howells)
Preludio al vespro di Monteverdi (Tippett)
Prelude and fugue on a theme of Vittoria (Britten).

It's been reissued on Eloquence Cds, together with Simon Preston's other Argo recordings.

Aah, that makes more sense! I was a bit puzzled I must confess...
