A very musically directed and sung CE. The Rutter anthem was a most affecting piece, and the viola part was wonderfully played. (I think I've heard it with cor anglais before.) Well done with the Reubke, Phil!

The descant to All My Hope was not Howells' own. We seldom hear that done...it's a bit outrageous but IMO fantastic.

Here it is with Christopher Palmer's fanfare preludes. Glorious brass arr.!

Rutter's own is now the traditional option and very fine it is, too. This broadcast's offering doesn't quite do it for me.

Thanks SB. Good to hear the original clothed in such finery.

Cornwall's a lovely tune, though it's barely a month since it came round on another CE broadcast, with different words.

Normally Radio 3 manages to avoid repeating the same music too quickly on CE (except for psalm chants), though I remember some years ago the same anthem by Mendelssohn twice in a month. It had slipped through because once it was sung in German and once in English.
