    Morning Worship from 5th Avenue

I hope that a post about R4 is permitted! This morning I was greatly surprised to hear St Thomas 5th Avenue New York sing the R4 church slot. I'm usually very quick to find the 'off' button. Despite the idealogical battle waging on the Avenue, to keep the choir of men and boys or not, Jeremy Filsell presented them in excellent form. Anthems by Byrd and Tomkins (never heard him called a Welsh comp[oser before!), a Jubilate by Weelkes and very colorful (sic) Psalm 29 - all manner of naughtiness from the organist/organ - it was a most enjoyable broadcast. I see that they broadcast Choral Evensong next Wednesday - to be looked forward to with enthusiasm.

Only been there once: a little underdressed as a tourist, with the ushers/churchwardens being in morning dress iirc!

I was last there just before the pandemic. It's not actually that large a building, a big parish church certainly, but not cathedral-sized; the generous acoustic comes from its design and materials used.

I too was delightfully surprised to wake up to this! Quite a Tudor repertoire for a sung mattins! Jeremy continues to work the wonders of his two (UK) predecessors, Dan Hyde and John Scott of course. Long may the St Thomas tradition thrive!
