I’ve only just found the time to give this service proper and due attention it deserves. The choir give muscular and thrilling singing in a very demanding music list. Expressive singing in the Stanford followed by clear, urgent delivery of the psalms. The singers relished the challenge of the new canticles and very effective they were. I’d like to compliment the engineering in what is a small confined space; plenty of room for the many very loud moments. The final voluntary seemed to be a challenge to get the registration changes smoothly done.
The esteemed Dean of Clare aways makes sure worship is at the centre of the music making. Very enjoyable.

The von Beckerath is hardly suited to the Ireland Elegy (or vice versa) or very much anything beyond the 18th Century really, though it does have playing aids like a plentiful supply of pistons. The very precise acoustic of the building leaves you very exposed too, with no wash at all to blend or smooth over stop changes.

Thanks for this. It seems to have been ill advised to play the Ireland. I got the impression that panic set in and things got worse as the piece progressed,
