Not back from supper yet? Welcome, o fons.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Galvani and Vorotko pieces highly acceptable.
Testing in terms of pitch and challenging for the choirs in sustaining textures, but I liked the non-vibrato top lines so crucial in such meditative pieces.
The accompanied plainchant: hmm. Well, the organ a bit too prominent for my taste, but chacun a son gout etc.

          Hymns? OK, nothing special.

Interesting... Boys made a nice fresh sound I thought. Any thoughts on the psalm? I like the refreshingly unfussy "house style"

Psalms brisk, top line leading, a few untidy bits here and there, but as said 'unfussy'.

Interesting difference between cantores and decani - I kept wondering if the engineering balance was responsible, but........?

I just felt that at times throughout, the acoustic got between us and the music. Beautifully atmospheric, but deffo not analytic. Could be argued that the acoustic actually 'made' the music mix more exciting?

But.... different people on Dec and Can? Actually our mix was pretty exciting in the building thanks but glad it floated your boat too. Please come down and help us get our psalms more together. I think we'd all value your input! Can you make the Friday morning rehearsal?

Stick to my guns on the Sancte Pater Benedicte by Elena Vorotko. Best thing there. And the final plainsong - without organ - worked beautifully.

And yes, the trebles deserve special mention. Music testing in terms of pitch, integration with other parts in the newer pieces, and they acquitted themselves very well indeed.

Can't be easy - don't know how long these choirs have together for rehearsal before each service, particularly the broadcast one, but the results for both singers . congregation and conductors gratifying.

As my first CE (well, first bit of music of any sort) after a longish philistine holiday, I really enjoyed this broadcast. And for organ buffs:

Who wrote that wonderful hymn tune - the only footprint I could pick up was Peter Tranchell?

What an amazing document - someone has been very diligent in their record keeping. I was delighted to find myself on the list of participants (1963).
