Yes, terrible news indeed. Kevin Bowyer once told me that he thought that Scott was one of the very few organists who could master Sorabji's First Organ Symphony (which sadly he never did).
I posted this earlier but it seems to have disappeared subsequently so I'm posting it again now.

Indeed, his recital at Hereford (his last in the UK, as it turned out), less than 2 weeks ago, was absolutely brilliant, technically and musically. There are few enough musicians of his calibre in the church music business, which makes his so sad and premature death even harder to bear. The community of St Thomas must be feeling totally bereft, and as for his wife, Lily, one cannot imagine ...

When John was a teenager he came with Wakefield Cathedral Choir and played our village organ which I had told the PCC was absolute rubbish and needed replacing. He made it sound heavenly and put my campaign back several years!! What a great organist and choir trainer. His Hyperion recordings I shall treasure as the best of their kind. RIP.
