It might be worth adding some context on this occasion. When the date was booked the plan was for a live broadcast. But then R3 changed the schedules. It would not have been possible to get the permission of the choristers’ various schools to leave an hour earlier. So the evensong went ahead at 4, recorded rather than live.

It might be worth mentioning that S H Otley has asked to be removed from the Forum.

I liked the Anthem and the Voluntary, both interesting pieces. The (alto?) soloist towards the end of the anthem had a fine-toned voice.

Tough music both conducted and sung with fearless, driving commitment. The Moore anthem was daunting but the treb soloists were outstanding and sang with confidence and fine sound. And Tom Winpenny's organ vol was true, true virtuosic stuff.
What a way for DOM Lucas to say a goodbye!. What a fantastically hard act he is going to be to follow!

You could say that about the new role he is undertaking...

I find that hard to believe. Every school I've been involved with has been happy to let pupils skip a lesson or two for inter-school sports days, swimming contests, dentist visits, inclement weather, field trips, pretty much anything under the sun. Surely a national live BBC broadcast of fits the bill? If not, then maybe those opposed to dedicated choir schools should think again.
