More news in the latest edition of Private Eye. A letter from the ‘Chief operating officer, Winchester Cathedral’ which insists that there’s ‘nothing to see here’ and all is rosy. News on another page concerns the potential fatal actions of the Dean on the Southern Cathedrals Festival.
I don't honestly know what to make of this! Recent YouTube live broadcasts sound very thin, perhaps unsurprising in the circumstances, but I am delighted by the news of Andy L's nuptials at St Cross, which itself is a very precious place, and I wish Leona and Andy every joy an happiness hereafter.

Isn't it simply a case of that wretched Dean trying to pretend that nothing much has happened, and that all is sweetness and light; classic C of E tactics. Anyone who cares about the Cathedral Choral Tradition should be keeping the pressure up, particularly in making sure the Bishop's Report is not "suppressed". Thankfully plenty of highly placed people don't seem minded to let this one go, praise be.
I flagged this up again as there are I suspect a few "highly placed" people on here, who perhaps are able in turn to publicise what's going on to their circles, thus keeping the pressure up.
Would be interesting to hear Lizzie's take on the atmosphere in the Cathedral at the moment......
The Dean of Winchester, the Very Revd Catherine Ogle, has announced that she will be retiring on 1 May 2025
Announcement timed - according to a cynical clerical friend - to co-incide with the A B of C's resignation. It certainly got past me, I only discovered it today.
We could really do with Lizzie's input on all the goings on - I hope she's OK.

Sorry not to have responded more quickly.
Times have been very troubled and troubling since the announcement of Andy's 'decision to step down', as you can imagine.
His final Sunday in July was both heart-rending and emotional in huge measure. At the end of Evensong, the five-minute standing ovation from a packed Cathedral, was unstoppable - despite 'certain efforts'...
The Community Meeting in October was heated, to put it mildly, and some blunt questions were asked. If you read the articles which have appeared in Private Eye, in the Church Times, the Spectator, the Times/Telegraph, Slippeddisc, and others, you will actually get a pretty comprehensive overview.
The Independent Inquiry continues to take its course, and the next stage of the report which will go to the Bishop, will be sometime in the New Year. it would appear that it resulted in over 40 people being interviewed, and over one hundred evidences being submitted to the Team.
I am anxious not to say too much more until the results are known, and not to undermine the incredible efforts of the Music Team.
It's obviously well-known that Madame Dean has announced her decision to retire next year. The Canon Precentor has not been in evidence since before Andy's final services. More than that, I cannot say at this stage. I have been commenting much on the Choral Evensong Appreciation Society Facebook group, and when appropriate or I feel necessary, will continue to do so.
Presently, I still attend at the Cathedral about fifty percent of the time, essentially to let my beloved Layclerks know I am supporting them. However, I will simply say that I don't feel able to take Communion, which breaks my heart, but is my decision until the outcome of the Inquiry is known, and truth becomes fully clear.
Thank you all for your concern for me personally, which I genuinely appreciate, and when/if it can be said, I won't say more, as Andy's situation would be made potentially difficult. However, despite being monitored myself, I will not be silent or compromise my own knowledge of what is right.
Have a very Happy Christmas and 2025, and remember, always read between lines and sub-'plots'...
Great to hear from you, Lizzie. Thanks for letting us know you're OK and just about hanging on in there, even though everything is in a "terrible state o'chassis". Try to have as happy and as blessed a Christmas as possible.

Thank you so much.
I will be watching online. Interested to hear any thoughts on the serviceservices...
Thanks and best wishes from me too Lizzie. Your stance is admirable, and standing firmly but quietly isn't easy. What is good also is that so many people aren't prepared to let this scandal die away, and rightly so. A red line was crossed, and if it isn't to happen again in another cathedral the D & C has to be seen to be admonished severely.
Incredibly chilling though to see the word "monitored" in your post. Seems to confirm other threads to this dreadful situation.
Have a peaceful Christmas and thanks for the update.
