This will be the third live broadcast of the day for the choir, who are also doing a Eucharist service at 8:10am on Radio 4 and another Eucharist at 10am televised on BBC 1.

      Ridiculous over-exploitation or.............necessary? Hmm.

It was in fact just two: the 8.10am R4 and 10am BBCTV were the same service (Live on R4). Can anyone explain the waving of Vatican colours throughout the televised broadcast? Nearly as baffling as the Lanquetuit D major Toccata being announced as Tournemire Improv. on VP ('shurely shom mishtak', 'as any fule kno')

Maybe just that white/gold is the liturgical palette for major feasts. Especially welcome after the dull purple in Lent and then maybe undyed textiles in Passiontide. At the church I attended there was a mechanism which whisked away the purple veils from statues that were too high to reach, as the Gloria sounded at the Easter Vigil.

It's not the colours I'm puzzled by (clearly Eastertide appropriate), but rather the ribbon flapping!

No, the R4 and the TV broadcasts had the same order of service but were both broadcast live. If you listen back to them you will notice the differences, for example different people giving the readings.

I haven't seen the programme but I wonder whether someone thought just pointing some cameras at a church service, even one for Easter Day, was a bit static and decided it needed more visual interest in terms of movement.
