Very good and well-controlled singing throughout, I thought. While it’s interesting as a curiosity to hear Jackson in G minor and the Bairstow, they are both pretty uninspiring pieces IMO. Sometimes there’s a good reason why works are rarely performed!

Jackson in G does the waves in popularity, it seems to be a favourite these days, appearing in many a music list.

There was also a very good choral matins from St Patrick's Cathedral this morning on R4's Sunday Worship to celebrate St Patrick's Day. The singing was good in this service, which included Stanford settings to mark the centenary of his passing.

            - and rightly so. It is masterly and has a thrilling build-up in the Gloria. BTW, most performances of the Magnificat are taken too fast, especially at the start.

FJ asked Boris Ord if he could dedicate it to King's but Ord refused on account of the 'blue' notes, eg B flat in the penultimate chord. Jazz harmony wasn't to be allowed in divine service! FJ was known by his wartime comrades as 'Fingers Jackson', when he often played jazz piano.

IIRC the Bairstow was the anthem at GG's last evensong at John's - along with Rootham in e canticles....

I have sung Jackson in G a few times, but never sung the service in G minor which we heard on this broadcast. His Communion service in G is also something I've occasionally encountered, but I've never sung any of his anthems and I wonder how many are performed now except at York Minster. Of course he ticked the 'living composer' box until a couple of years ago.
