    Martin's Golgotha

Well, a revelation to me and I'm quite entranced. Thank you Radio 3 for broadcasting something different.

I just wish I could read the libretto - I'm sure I'd get more from it.

Hefty stuff - I suspect to get the full value you had to be there? And you certainly needed to lilbretto in hand as you listened.
      Some excellent moments.

For those who can cope with French there is this:

I imagine it was quite an experience live at King's; it is available on iPlayer.

I'm afraid I've missed out on Golgotha. When I recorded it from Sargent's broadcast I was too young and couldn't get into it. Now I am [probably] too old and have bad tinnitus. The bigger the work, the louder the noise in my head that blocks the music.

It makes me sad but we all have something, some time.

I agree about that. Although holidaying in 'sauvage' fashion, I attempted to listen on a small tranny. Because it is a less-known work for performers I found some of it rather uncomfortable in ensemble and tuning. The BBCCO were seemingly struggling a bit, and might have benefitted from a more 'hard-core' orchestral conductor. I'd certainly like to hear a more polished and well-thought-out performance where the sense of strain and encertainty were overcome...and maybe with a more 'professional' choir.
