I enjoyed this CE from a very accomplished chamber choir. Here we had an example of singers with mature-sounding voices blending [dare I use the word?] and balancing to make a most pleasing ensemble.. David Trendell must have been a hard act to follow, but Gareth seems to have stepped in in exemplary fashion. I enjoyed his canticles too...challenging range for the sopranos....which were refreshingly novel.

Big sing, LONG psalms, not quite 15th evening, but weighty.
Top heavy, BUT the top were good and carried everything.

If you enjoyed the sound of this choir you might like this lunchtime recital by the Birmingham Conservatoire Chamber Choir conducted by Paul Spicer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05xq9lb . It includes the Vaughan Williams Mass in G minor and Finzi's Lo, the Full, Final Sacrifice. I was particularly impressed by the diction in the Finzi. [Disclaimer: I sang with this choir a couple of times in 2014]

I heard it too when it went out. Indeed a warm sound and a well-directed choir. Personally I like the VW Mass to sound a bit more 'ethereal', but they made a good job of it.
