Apologies for forgetting / mis-writing/posting of such services - the "Proms" has made a mess of usual timings and CE is turning up at all sorts of unlikely times in the schedule.
Boy, will I be glad when this season's "Proms' is over - for all sorts of teeth-grinding reasons.
Except I suppose we will then have wall-to-wall rpts throughout 2023/4.............

This broadcast, however, seems to be at the regular expected time slot of 4pm!

But in the last 10 days or so, Choral EVENsong has been tx-ed at lunchtimes - bulldozed out by "Proms".
OK, so maybe broadcast it in late evenings, but LUNCHtimes?

My point was more that you hadn't actually told us when the broadcast was, in all your turmoil!

I think the UK became paralysed by the Women's Football result earlier in the day. Net result? Many kkicked CE into touch. (Oh dear. Wrong game.). I'll be listening on catch-up. That's my goal anyway.

It's uncanny how on the days there is a live broadcast, something always happens that means I'm unable to listen! I won't listen to recordings, so I'm stuffed basically!!

Well, yes, but I watched the Eng v Oz match and , seriously, imo it exactly expressed why I find women's footie v. diff to watch/ enjoy.
CE at Edinburgh was actually a v.decent sing,...Thx to the team.

This was more than just decent but a very well sung and played service. I particularly enjoyed the introit by Gail Randall with a lovely treble solo. The Jackson and MacMillan both seemed imbued with Scotch snaps, the Jackson by coincidence perhaps? There was a sense of space around the sound, no more so than the Leighton voluntary with very meaty solo stops - thrillingly played. Thank you everyone involved.

The Introit was effective and much as I criticise the music of James MacMillan his New Song is undeniably a ‘hit’. Well sung, played and presented - an exemplary Choral Evensong.

MacMillan has the impact of making me turn off whenever. Seems such a shame that choirs spend so much time rehearsing his material, often doing it well, and yet...and yet...seems so trite and sentimental.

Not like you at all stating choirs should only rehearse music you approve or they’re wasting their time! Sir James's strong Christian faith is in all he writes, whether in his Strathclyde Motets for parish church choirs or more challenging music for professional groups. Long may his muse continue.

If choirs spend time on his work, that is THEIR decision of course.
I do not like his music and I sigh over the time good choirs spend on what is - only IMO - not worth it.
