Oh, come, LCB. It's hardly fair to use SSW as a stick to beat the moderns. And some of us always enjoy Rhuddlan.

For me, this was a showcase for very, very clued up professionals talking to very, very clued up professionals.

From the off, the introit was - I would surmise? - at the very outer limits of what many [most?] choirs could read/achieve without much rehearsal and instruction, and congregations find appealing. Good that it was in the hands of a pro ensemble who negotiated it well.

Liked The Dream of The Rood, but need to hear it again to get my head round it.

I have just heard it on i-player and liked it very much, especially the Mag...which had some rhythmic drive, a factor often lacking, I find. I also felt that the contents of this years LFCCM service was more genuinely in the spirit of the times...OK shoot me down in flames, someone. Sadly I had to miss the end (including he organ sortie) so will catch up.

PS Just re-heard the Toby Young Mag, and like it even more. Wouldn't it be good if it became part of the Anglican fittings, in the same league as the Swayne Mag ?
