It will be good to hear this choir singing in its own chapel. If I recall correctly, recent broadcasts have been from churches with which the College has some connection. The chapel is lovely (possibly one of the lesser-known Cambridge chapels) but without over-reverberant acoustics. Wood was, of course, a previous organist; Robin Holloway is a Fellow of the College. I don't know if Julian Anderson has a connection with the College (though Patrick Hadley had a go at those words too.) Guy Turner sang next door at Clare. Not sure how Wesley fits in...though the current choir must have some good soloists to bring it off. Looking forward to it!

You are right - this is the first time Caius have broadcast from their own chapel.

Welcome Guy. You wrote a rather neat and slightly jazzy Magnificat a while ago. Great piece. Kids love it. Is that recorded anywhere?

I don't know if Julian Anderson has a connection with the College...

He is an alumnus of the College.

I used to know a Heather nee Cordingley who had been a choral scholar at Caius and who wrote a good psalm chant. Might be the same Cordingley or even chant (it was in B major).

Top line sounded uncomfortably close to being Junior BBCS. But what truly surprised me was that the huge Wesley anthem seemed such dull music - nothing to do with the way the choir delivered it at all. And the Greene canticles....deffo not my cup of tea.

When I looked down the list before the service, I was intrigued. Not now.

A vibrant, lively and well supported sound. I've often heard the same from the New College boys under Higginbottom, and a similarly uninhibited use of vibrato, nay, more in tutti sections.

As I'm sure we all know, contemporary comments about the Sistine Chapel Choir in the 16th c. commend the trebles for their use of vibrato and assure the reader that "of course, the sopranisti should use the most [vibrato]". I can't see why women should be any different.

Rep. not my cup of tea either, but directed and performed with commitment and great skill.
