Possibly featuring Alexander Armstrong? (Not sure of his dates there, but he was a choral scholar approximately then.)

Not often we get Croft/Greene/Boyce era canticles on CE.

In my opinion the Greene canticles are rather dull... But an easy sing if you've got an anthem like the Bach looming!

Actually, as a matter of interest, are there many canticle settings from that era? I'm not aware of them but as always I am willing to be informed.

I remember this broadcast from first time round, and it was indeed good, sufficiently so that I never taped over the recording I made of it (you didn't read that).

I understood that a recording for private use is OK.

In reply to the question raised by Mopsus concerning Canticles from the Croft, Greene, Boyce era,
the regularly heard ones nowadays could be just about summed up on one hand:
                Arnold in A
                Wise in E flat, F and D
                Greene in C
                Boyce in A and C
Yet there is an excellent listing in the Quarterly Musical Magazine and Review, Volume 6 produced in 1824 which gives a list of many canticles in use in cathedrals at that time.[List of services in the several ecclesiastical libraries of England pp 310-317]
Kelway in B minor rings a bell with me
Worth taking a look at. It can be found on Google books

PS Psalm 78 sadly missed for the umpteenth time, ...and a happy 15th evening to all.

I wonder if Stephen Layton is up for a CE broadcast any time soon? I see we have G&C coming up. I wonder if the opening 'travelogue' will include winning University Challenge ?

Usually not around at the right places and times for CE but I was, as it happened, today, for what I thought was a very good Jesu meine Freude indeed
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
