Love the comment at the bottom from

        Mrs Trellis

        BONKERS!

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

If the BBC recorded Easter from Kings in the same way in 2014 as they did in 2011 (as per the DT report) then that is two major TV broadcasts AND the Nine Lessons and Carols on Christmas Eve plus whatever else was going on at the time then it's little wonder that the choir look tired and knackered.

Is there anyone from King's on here who is prepared to comment?

I think I was listening to another broadcast. the Ireland moved me to tears, and what was wrong with the Blow....?

Yes I'm with ardcarp, I thought it sounded a bit of a mess too - just watched / listened again, the complex sections with trebles up high were a bit ropey and tough to listen to - in fact, I stopped.

The pieces which fared best seemed to me to be the Faire is the Heaven, My Beloved Spake, Tantum Ergo - and the Tavener Lord's Prayer (the latter a revelation for me - not a JT fan as a rule, but this really got to me!)

Better perhaps than the composer of Les effets de manches and Doppo il tormento...

The opening of the Blow was robbed of its expressiveness (IMO) by a too-fast tempo and lack of shaping of those phrases leading to poignant suspensions. The singing was a bit 'rough' and as Draco says tuning a bit iffy.
