    Chorister of the Year 2014

Apologies for a Radio Otherwise post and late in the day, but I imagined that some around this forum might be interested in hearing the final of the Radio 2 Chorister of the Year Competition, which was broadcast—having been previously recorded—from St Paul's in mid-November. The programme will be available in iPlayer for another six days: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04m4jtb

Short clips of the finalists and a recording of last year's winners are here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01nh7xv/clips

I know there's much can be said about the sometimes twee turn productions like this (and Songs of Praise, much-maligned of late) can take, but if I can put that aside, the Chorister of the Year competition is a lovely if micro reminder of the excellent work being done in the music departments of cathedrals large and small— and, in this case, school chapels and parish churches, too.

Thanks for that terratogen. At least it was broadcast live unlike (see post) Choir of the Year, about which Sarah M-P said wistfully during The Choir yesterday, "it is going on at this moment in Bridgwater Hall".

Yes, thanks. Have to say I found the presentation a bit emetic. Loved the comment of the Winchester College soloist with his very philosophical take on what it is to be a treble!
