Perhaps, but I suspect "The Sage" management are hoping to keep Gateshead council sweet. It's analagous to the rebranding of "Teeside Airport" as Durham Tees Valley Airport when Durham County Council stepped in with large cash injection.

I still refer to Sage Gateshead colloquially as The Sage as Anton does.
