This one wasn't plastic - it was one of those superior silk ones I think; it was a creamy colour and only the impossibly long stem gave it away.

That sounds much better than than the red plastic one that was there a year ago.

I didn't know Monteverdi's grave was in the Frari when I first visited it. It was rather lovely to come upon it by chance

Yes, this message board discusses specialised matters of minority interest (though I should point out that thousands of people every week in Britain hear music in choral foundations, either live or broadcast). Sometimes the language gets technical. I'm not an organist and my eyes tend to glaze over at some of the organ threads, so I just leave off those ones and read the others. I will say that other internet forums (including other parts of this R3 message board) tend to attract people who enjoy twisting the meaning of what others post, or contradicting them just for the sake of it. 'The Choir' is refreshingly largely free of this sort of thing, or maybe I've just been lucky.

I wouldn't say that in-group terms such as Drome are either technical or particularly informative.

I have to admit that particular term floored me at first, though I soon worked out what it had to mean. In fact I've never heard or seen it used outside this board, but then again I've never lived in London (at least, not since I've been interested in church music). Any other 'in-group terms' that you would like to mention?

At the risk of being pedantic (which of course I never am), I would point out that the one in Oxford is Christ Church; Christchurch is in New Zealand (or Dorset).

I believe a postcard posted in Australia and addressed to Frank Copplestone, The House, England did eventually arrive in said undergraduate's pigeon-hole in the porter's lodge at Christ Church, having been sent to a few other 'Houses' in the process, including that of Parliament, so it does work.
