Stile Antico From the Imperial Court

Stile Antico's new CD, From the Imperial Court, arrived on my doormat this morning. Subtitled ‘Music for the House of Hapsburg’, it contains music by Josquin, Morales, Gombert, de la Rue, Clemens, among others, some of it new to the catalogue. Some very nice singing, as we've come to expect from this group, and a little less self-indulgent tempo-wise than some of their previous discs. Recommended for lovers of Flemish polyphony everywhere.

On a slightly less enthusiastic note, I strongly suspect that the contents of the disc were re-ordered at some point during its production. The order of the ten tracks listed on the back of the packaging bears no relation to that of the eleven listed inside. The list on the inside corresponds with what is on the disc, but the ordering of the sleeve notes, while it is closer to the list on the back, doesn't entirely agree with either, which is a bit confusing. Maybe a bad day in Harmonia Mundi's editorial department.

Oh dear. Santa's going to have a problem [if not a double hernia] fulfilling my wish-list this year.

This looks like the programme they presented in the Lake District earlier this year.
