Hope they sing this descant to Anima Christi. Might be by Paul Spicer, but can't be sure.

The choir of Truro Cathedral sing the hymn Soul Of My Saviour with a lovely descant during the final verse.

Interesting that Katherine is referred to as Master of the Choristers. On the other hand......

Thanks for the Heads Up. I'll have to pop in after work (can see the rather uninspired neoRomanesque central tower from my window as we speak).

Nice to see them giving the Tallis an outing. It's a piece that deserves to be much more firmly on the map than it is.

'Organist & Master of the Choristers' is the title with which both Katherine and Sarah Baldock (Chichester) have lived since 2008. Have you really only just noticed?

Yes. But I've no problem with it. My mother (of fond memory) was referred to as Mr Mayor during her term of office. My father always joked about being the Mayoress. I'm just tickled by the concept of a mistress of the choristers......

As good as we've had in many a long week.
Loved the top line tone - suspect mixed boys and girls - huge confidence and attack in some tricky music. Good lively pace and expression.
Particularly loved the Byrd and Tallis.

Plaudits to trebles, altos and engineers. Fine balance. And to the 'Master' of Choristers. She certainly seems to be well in charge with a clear view of what she wants.

'Fraid I really cringed at the stream of platitude and cliche in that very special clergyman's voice in the prayers.

I have to say it was a fantastic service. I do believe, that instead of being a mixed treble line, it was all boys. All the same, an impressive performance produced by the 'Master' of the choristers. One of the best I have heard recently!l A very fine treble line and good men.

The 'very special clergyman' you refer to is the Sub Dean and Precentor, the Revd Canon Dr Nicholas Thistlethwaite, independent organ advisor, author of three books on the instrument (one of which I possess, and another I'd love to buy) and over sixty articles. He is a former Chairman of the British Institute of Organ Studies, has advised English Heritage and The Heritage Lottery Fund on organ projects, and has served on the Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England. Like the Dean of Hereford and a few other clergymen, he possesses an RCO organ-playing diploma, so to my mind, he is a very special clergyman. Platitude and cliche? I didn't hear them.

He's clearly better at playing than praying ...

Couldn't agree more. Fine organ playing too. It was the boys according to the Guildford Cathedral website.

Then, Wolsey, we shall have to differ on reactions to the manner and matter of the prayers.

                              Are they still from Lanesborough?
