Here is a bit of news from a Winchester source:

Jonathan Hope, our superb Organ Scholar left us yesterday, to be Assist DoM at Gloucester and his place will be taken for a few months by Justin Miller, who is, I believe, attached to St Alban's and comes from Ohio. He'll be much appreciated during coming SCF in July.

I mentioned Mr. Hope's move in the Gloucester Choral Evensong thread. Miller was recently Acting Assistant at Ripon Cathedral.

I'm sorry if I run the risk of hijacking the thread, but this reminds me of a splendid, but probably apocryphal anecdote.

The head of the Perrin family was noted for his miserly tendencies. Once, upon paying a taxi fare he is reputed to have said: "I suppose you want a tip. You can water down the product** by 30% and no-one will notice."
