Music societies

I was thinking this might be a good place for forumites to post links to their favourite composer and/or music society websites.

I assume that I'm not the only one on this forum who is a member here http://www.rvwsociety.com/

Similarly, I don't suppose I'm the only member of the Elgar Society - I'm sure it's got a website, but I've been in the society for 40 years and have never found the need to use such new-fangled things. The two regular publications, The Elgar Society News and The Elgar Society Journal are very informative - free entrance to the birthplace too!

The Elgar Society does something other composers societies don't generally do - taking over the publication of his conmplete works, something dumped by Music Sales after they took over Novello.

A branch of the Elgar Society for Yorkshire and the North East started up last year with meetings in York. I've attended a couple of these and they were very interesting and enjoyable. I'm hoping to get along to more of them this year.

I had noidea of this, EA, I worked in publishing [Augener] when Novello were in the next Soho street, Iknow Novello took over my old music library as ex-colleagues moved to Borough Green to keep theirjobs. But the despised Music Sales dumping the Elgar works. Words fail me!
I'venever joined a Society but first visited the Birthplace in 1954 and returned several times. I remember the late Peter Sargent speaking to the Society a few years ago, that's all.

The decision by Novello to stop publishing the Elgar Edition was taken 20 years ago and the Edition has since made slow but steady progress. Details can be seen here:

Although not strictly on-topic, this seems a good opportunity to mention local music societies. I just wonder how many of you are members of a local recorded music society (gramophone society as they used to be called) or music appreciation society and, if you are, how well they're doing.

I belong to the York RMS and we're really struggling now with membership very low and difficulty recruiting new members. If any of you are within reach of York and are interested in joining the society, I'd be happy to give you further information if you PM me.

It wasn't just that they abandoned the Elgar Edition - they pulped most of the unsold volumes produced so far.
