Learning that Brassbandmaestro is to do a re-arrangement of Mahler 6 movement 1 has massively raised the respect in which I hold him. Next we'll be learning that he's been approached for a reduction of The Gothic!

There is already a wind ensemble version of that movement, Bbm:

The Austin Bowie High School Wind Emsemble playing "Finale to Symphony No. 3" by Mahler at their end of the year concert in May 2009.

(Because of the static camera in that clip, you don't see the brass and percs, but boy, do you hear them!)

EDIT: this arrangement, by Richard Saucedo, appears also to be an abridgement - so there's room for an arrangement of the whole Movement!
RE-EDIT: There's also another arrangement of the Movement by Jimmie Howard Reynolds, but the youTube clip isn't clear whether this is also an abridgement, or whether the clip is an extract from the complete movement.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

It's done! It's merely awaiting its première in the US!!

Have you booked your tickets yet, Bbm? You were going to take Mrs Bbm on a glorious whirlwind North American tour weren't you?

Actually arranged and conducted by Jonathan Tunick 1975 and I guess he was familiar with Mahler 3. Let's not get snobby - Mahler's compositions had their share of schmaltz. I have for a long time liked Judy's version of this as also I have 'Where or When' from 1979 'Hard Times for Lovers' album.
...and Cali - nothing can sabotage my love of Mahler 3 - other than probably Mahler 2.

Maybe not kazoo, Serial, but plenty of klezmer in the original.

Yes, that's a point - and not often referred to, I think.

Fortunately I'm at work so couldn't hear it really - but I'm assuming there's a thematic link? Don't know the song and that's the way it's gonna stay!!
A friend (well, now ex-friend ) said I ruined the first movement of Mahler 6 for him by singing 'Flintstones, meet the Flintstones!

Oh - the words of that alays come into my head when I hear the 7/4 main section of the First Movement of Bernstein's Chichester Psalms!

Agreed, or Bill for that matter - I was really aiming at fernie's dislike of the syrup - I rather like the arrangement. Speaking of Mahler arrangements the scaled down Douglas Boyd Manchester Camarata with Kate Royal I interestingly different.

There really ought to be a ban or at least a warning on musical cross-references that can torpedo a great work!!!!

(I've ignored the various examples above when it was clear from the first few words that people were a-spoiling!!)

What, like "On Top of Old Smokie" turning up in DSCH 11, or "Three Blind Mice" in Rach's 4th Piano Concerto, you mean?

Oh Rach PC4 is way past help. Not going to think about the other thing as I don't know the song so na-na-nana-nah!!

                              Crumbs! It does, doesn't it?

(I bet Cali knows the version with the alternative lyrics.)
