Neither, to the best of my recollection.

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

There have been a few since then as well as a host of reissues. They don't come much better than the live 1979 Jochum with the Munich Philharmonic recently released on the Weitblick label and surprised if this wasn't mentioned (I didn't hear the broadcast).

Confess to not owning the 1966 Haitink but do have the 1978 remake as well as a live 1972 account in the radio recordings box.

I bought Barenboim/Staatskapelle Berlin 2012 (live) on a whim after good reviews, to freshen up my collection of 7's - fine enough performance but I don't find myself returning to it. Any views?

Same here; I find the 1978 remake, more than satisfactory, so not sure if it's worth 'investing' in the 1966 as well. A tad too self-indulgently extravagant, perhaps!

Very much concur Richard. I found DB rather prosaic. As the old Penguin Guide might have said: 'one admires without being fully involved.'

I've always preferred the broader, more deeply felt and superbly recorded 1978 Concertgebouw recording. The winning selection certainly demands a revisit but I will be surprised if my preference isn't confirmed.

I bought the 1966 shortly after the BAL but have only just got round to listening to it . I prefer it to the 1978 much more energy and excitement in 1966 . A good library choice I think .

I have several, Abbado, HvK, but not Haitink!
