Daniel Barenboim's Peral label

Mostly positive review in Gramo for Barenboim's third(!) Bruckner cycle with SKB

I liked the 7th (from the same cycle) that DG put out and was interested in the cycle.

Gramo said it was "download only" however Peral only sells via iTunes which means lossy.

Am puzzled by this approach. They are already selling a niche product aimed at "cognoscenti" and offering download only cuts out part of that market. To then not offer lossless (or hi res) makes the target market smaller still! Indeed, this fan of Bruckner and Barenboim (I have both his previous cycles) has now lost interest

Does anyone understand this?

Perhaps other download sites that are non lossy will start offering them. Are these the same recordings that appeared in Blu Ray? I have a Blu Ray of these forces of 4. One possibility could be that the Blu Ray sales were disappointing and so a corporate decision was made not to release them as CDs. DB may have formed his own label to release them and thus they are on iTunes. The logistics or creating your own label and releasing on iTunes are easy. My barber did this for his rock band

Must confess, I hadn't thought of the "but it's so easy" argument given some of the personalities involved, but you may well be right! As an aside, I once accidentally discovered a sermon I'd preached on iTunes! (The church hadn't yet set up a downloads section on its own website and it was an easy short-term measure to stick sermons up as podcasts on iTunes.)

I've never heard any of Barenboim's Bruckner - it just doesn't seem to be a package I'd want to take from the shelf and put in the trolley. An 'odd' combo?

Maybe they are all excellent, but - well, I'll stick with my familiar brands... for now.

I'm not a massive fan - but his BPO Ninth on Teldec is my favourite for that work, one of the best things he has ever done (and I recall received a rave review from R Osborne in Gramophone…)

Interesting. That makes more sense. So there are 2 high Rez options for those recordings, the Blu Ray and High Res downloads.
