I am more inclined to stream the new Berlin Philharmonic Bruckner 8 with Zubin.

I heard the recording on Spotify recently of Jansons’s Bruckner 8. Spellbinding it was.

The cover disc of the May 2020 issue of BBC MM is Bruckner 8 (1884–7, rev. 1889–90; edited by Leopold Nowak).
            BBCSSO conducted by Donald Runnicles.
Recorded live at City Halls, Glasgow, 21 January 2010.

I thought that I had flagged this up somewhere but if I did I can't find the post, and this now seems the most appropriate thread.

PS: Yes, I did. Post #20 here:

Just click on the #number to the upper right of the message you want to link to. This updates the URL appropriately. The rest is made clear when you check the format while replying with quote.

Not long before lockdown I found the BBC Legends Bruckner 8 and 9 coupling with Horenstein in a local charity shop . I see it seems to be difficult to obtain second hand on line . RO gives it a mixed review in Gramophone. Any views on here ?

Memory corner. The first time I heard this monumental work live we were standing up - Prom 1974. LA Phil, Zubin Mehta.

I remember the brass section stood up at one point and gave us an unscheduled Stars and Stripes.

I have owned that for a dogs age, and for many years before I developed a fuller appreciation for AB it was my only version of thos two pieces. I remember playing them a couple of years ago and thinking that they didn’t hold my interest compared to Wand, Karajan, Giulini, and others.

Rapprochement with Venzago later, I hope.... splendidly sonorous in the Berlin Konzerthaus....

If I'm not repeatedly shaken out of my Brucknerian wits, I'll be very disappointed...

I hope you listen to Runnicles though.

I've not found his Bruckner of compelling interpretative interest previously - IIRC I heard his 8th back in the day....
In medias res with Venzago now.....
