*I remember the year because it was the same summer England beat Australia after following on in three consecutive matches, a feat not achieved since 1894 in Melbourne S.A.[/QUOTE]

Nothing to do with Chopin, but I can't let that go! They followed-on in the Third Test only, surely? But were seriously behind in all three, perhaps that's what you're thinking.

Well, I can't remember now, so I can't contest your recollection, but whatever it was, I distinctly do recall Bill Frindall saying it was a record.

For anyone who hasn't already seen this, a NYT article today about a recently re-discovered Chopin waltz, retrieved from the Morgan Library's collection:

Very interesting. The link in the NYT to the recording didn’t work for me I’ll try later on my laptop

Like a lot of amateur pianists I’ve played a lot of Chopin waltzes over the years and if it isn’t by Chopin it’s a very good parody. That instant switch from minor to major - bit of a hallmark,

              They read it here first

The unknown waltz was discovered in the vault of the Morgan Library and Museum in New York.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
