    Mendelssohn

    Not exciting much interest?
    Is this a repeat?
caught one or two snippets. The final movement of the Scottish (LSO) was like wading through treacle I felt....no doubt better informed minds will disagree !!
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

ts You must be really down after being done over by the baggies if you cannot be uplifted by the finale of Mend 3!

I am down, but I love FBM. And the Scottish is just wonderful. Just this particular performance...I am not normally that fussy... maybe it's just me.
Somebody listen to this version of the last mvt and tell us what you think...

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.

                  Did you hear it then?

(edit Pete Maag was the guilty baton wielder apparently).

Sorry, missed the LSO reference... and I didn't hear it this week.

But I have the Maag CD and have long enjoyed it.

That said, the symphony was covered by the French critics in their 2 hour 'blind tasting' programme, and the Maag limped out of the race at an early stage. LSO/Abbado won their palm - so it seems it ain't the band's fault...

was just the last Mvt...perhaps I need to check out a few more. Just a beginner you see !
(does listening to a BC on the car radio on the way to watch footy at the pub count as a good excuse for poor judgement?!)
Anyway, wading through treacle might be fun, I guess.

You can check out the Abbado version here - 79p and you can get that last movement on its own to listen to for comparison: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mendelssohn-...m_cd_album_lnk

Maag has been my long-time favourite when it was SDD145, and it has lifted my spirits on many occasions, as has his MND (SDD159).

Ok, so excuse time...my limited collection means that I usually hear this on a box set cheapie..mvt 4 clocks in at 8 mins 22.. as oppose to the Abbado at 9.50, which seems to be a more common tempo.
They must have been recording close to last orders.

That Abbado is gorgeous. I need to lose my old punk habits and up the quality..not easy on a life long trek up and down the A303........

(To be fair to the good old Radio Kamerorkest, the marking is Allegro Vivacissimo.....)
