But supplemented with Barstow/BBCSO/Leppard in S3:
and maybe Tippett himself in S2 and S4:
Tippett: Symphonines Nos. 2 & 4. NMC: NMCD104. Buy CD or download online. BBC Symphony Orchestra, Michael Tippett

If you want the early "Symphony No.0" though - fascinating, if an unsatisfactory whole - you will need Brabbins also. His versions of the numbered symphonies are a little sub-fusc compared with the other two, in my opinion, though cogent and serviceable.

Originally posted by RichardB View PostHis recording of the 2nd Symphony is excellent, that's true; but when it comes to the later pieces he seems to have decided that some of the more odd details need to be swept under the carpet. Compare the beginning of the slow movement of the Triple Concerto between Davis and Hickox.
Kovacic/Caussé/Baillie/BBCPO/Tippett (Nimbus)
Kovacic/Golani/Georgian/London Sinfonietta/Atherton (from Tippett's 80th birthday concert, c/w The vision; Carlton/BBC Radio Classics)
Hope/Dukes/Poltéra/BBCSO/Andrew Davis (2007 Proms, DG)
Not sure I could say I have a favourite!

I'm glad you agree with me about the Barstow/Leppard 3rd. In fact, I have a feeling that my purchase might have followed a recommendation of yours in the first place, so thank you again for that!

Not sure you'd readily find a copy of them though.
Maybe you need to plan a longer visit to York than you had last time! They're all on the shelves here.
PS: Found them after all!
Here's the Carlton one.
