For those whose CD is in a foreign field that is forever Sidcup (and for anyone else interested) Colin Horsley's recording of the Piano Concerto with the RPO conducted by Basil Cameron is available via youTube:

It does at least explain why I couldn't find the Horsley CD when I went looking for it .......

IMVVHO the PC is a fine work ..........
I somehow missed that thread at the time. My introduction was via the Horsley/Cameron recording when it was re-issued on a mid-price LP. The last movement had a real 'tingle factor' moment which has now dissipated through familiarity. That recording, in a later CD manifestation, remains my 'go to',

though I have several others to complement it.

I think of myself as more Squeaky Gates. A six dollar bill is on its way to you - please return the change.

Goodness, EA, such sterling work, with posting the old ones and good to read past/late members comments, and that book looks interesting.

a favourite orchestral work of mine is The Overlanders Suite. I might get bac k to that soon.

I havn't paid much attention to Ireland's chamber and instrumental music. any suggestion, please?

I know very little of it myself, but I gather that the 'cello Sonata is highly regarded by the experts - the slow movement in particular, but here's the whole work:

You won't go far wrong here:

Classic performances by fine, sympathetic musicians of yore.

Thanks Ferney. That looks a must. There's a Chandos set that looks a good one to investigate that was mentioned earlier.

A super CD! In my book the Colin Horsley account of the Piano Concerto is inspired. I also highly rate Mai-Dun as one of the finest English tone poems.

One of the finest sets of John Ireland's music around.

I think you may be giving the wrong person the credit here.

What a line up of artists there! Thanks for the heads up Bryn.

I'd start off with the violin sonata.
