Stefan Zorzor was born in Oradea in 1932. He studied composition at the Bucharest Academy where he gained a keen interest in new musical techniques. After graduating in 1961 he worked as a proof reader for the Composers' Union until 1965.
He thereafter developed a highly successful career writing music for film and theatre, and also found cataloguing work with the Bayerischer Rundfunk.
His music employs a descriptive compositional style ranging in harmonic language from modality to chromaticism and involving such techniques as heterophony.
