I have a quite a lot of Myaskovsky CDs including the complete symphonies under Svetlanov on Warner. I tend to play his chamber music more than anything else of his notably the two cello sonatas and some string quartets particularly No. 13. In truth I'm often left disappointed with a lot of his output which I find extremely uneven for example symphonies and the violin concerto and cello concerto. I don't think I've played any of his works for quite a while, maybe I'll revisit those recordings that I have. I have been meaning to explore his solo piano works.Last edited by Stanfordian; 10-05-19, 14:27.

I find that the Second Cello Sonata is on Laura van der Heijden's debut CD on Champs Hill Records that I have not yet played since buying it .
Impressed by both the music and the playing on first acquaintance . The Prokofiev Cello Sonata on the same CD is given an outstanding performance in my view.

I must confess that I do not know a single note by this composer (☹).
Judging by the contributions on this thread, it is high time that I did!
BBMmk2 twice seeks recommendations for his music, in messages 9 & 14. I think I can help.
On the excellent Classic Select World website recently discovered (www.classicselect.world.com) there are all sorts of freebies, and/or extremely cheap downloads, one of which is the
Complete Symphonies (01-27) of Nikolai Myaskovsky performed by the Russian Federation Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Evgeny Svetlanov.
It’s on the Alto label “using the Olympia Masters”, if that helps. The set is priced at Eur 6.95. Here’s the link:

Hope this helps.

Apologies Bryn, I stand corrected.
I'm surprised with the second link though, as I simply copied it from the browser. Thank you for the correction.
The first broken link is entirely my fault. It should of course read www.classicselectworld.com.
