Just finished listening to Gaspard de la Nuit - Håkon Austbø. Breathtaking!

I can't find my Ravel solo piano CDs (Naxos:François-Joël Thiollier) so I need a new set

Can someone give a suggestion as to an excellent set?

I've lived with and loved the Pascal Rogé set on DECCA for years - and as physical CDs they're almost criminally inexpensive these days.

I wouldn't mind a supplementary set - perhaps one a little more Boulez/Roth/Previn-like in approach.

No Pavane or La Valse on that Rogé Decca set.

My 'go to' used to be Perlemuter. These days, however, Thibaudet would be my first recourse.

The Pavane is track 14 on disc 2, BeefO - but you're right about the lack of the Pianofication of La Valse, alas.

                    Thanks for that, Bryn.

Mea culpa. So it is. Not sure how I missed that!

Btw, not only is the set "criminally inexpensive" as you say down-thread, but there is a Debussy set at the same price!!

I have Louis Lortie's complete piano music, which I've always enjoyed.

I don’t believe it but the whole forum world loves Ravel. Totally justified to be at one on this. Happy christmas everyone.

                            For a modern set, this

Buy Ravel: Complete Piano Works by Bertrand Chamayou from Amazon's Classical Music Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders.

is pretty good. Benjamin Grosvenor's recording of "Le Tombeau de Couperin" is sublime: I hope that he might get round to the rest of the piano music in due course. And the Argerich Gaspard etc very much vaut le détour.

I have a couple of Philips double CDs full of good Ravelian (Ravelesque?) things.

Listening now to the Austbø set mentioned by Biffo. It seems very fine indeed.
