Completely unaware of this composer before today (Essential Classics). Would be good to track down some of her operatic works. Looks as though only instrumental and keyboard works are commonly available on CDs or streaming/downloads.

What I heard was good.

Actually there are some cantatas, and I’m not sure about the Le Sommeil d’Ulisse CD.

... indeed it sounded really interesting. They played the Ouverture to Céphale et Procris - but I think it's currently unavailable (or only available at silly prices).

She was CoW in March 2015, and her music appears not infrequently in the morning schedules since then; as much because of the quality of the music as the fact of being a 'neglected woman composer'(multiple boxes ticked) I hope.

Thanks, very interesting. I only knew her harpsichord music, which can easily stand alongside Louis Couperin or d'Anglebert.

... fearsome ferney refers to my firm recommendation as a "mention" with special inverted commas en sus. I'm not sure what those inverted commas are supposed to imply - perhaps a cautious resistance to such a firm recommendation. And yet - when I played the harpsichord, those heugel/le pupitre scores were revered as the authoritative editions - whether for Scarlatti, Couperin, Jacquet de La Guerre, Duphly, Balbastre or whoever. In the day, they were bloody expensive, but we saved up our pennies and found a way to acquire them.

I know the tendency nowadays in the HIPP movement is to play whenever possible from facsimiles of original manuscripts or facsimiles of early printed editions. I was never brave enough to contemplate that. But I wd be sad to think that the heugel/le pupitre had lost their claims to scholarly authority. (Tho' of course for Louis Couperin Davitt Moroney's edition for l'Oiseau-Lyre, Monaco is preferable, and the (sadly incomplete) Fadini edition for Ricordi of Scarlatti has some advantages over Kenneth Gilbert's heugel/le pupitre.)

Ferney the Fearsome can answer for himself, but I read nothing sinister in his use of quotes: merely another way of writing "provides a link for", perhaps?

- exactly: it wasn't actually mentioned in the text of vinty's #9, and I couldn't think of another way of putting it (the bit in brackets was a hasty addition, after I realized that the first book in the Presto list was the same as the one on the Amazon site.)

I think you both mean "fearful".
