Yes, ER. Clearly a radio broadcast, there's no indication who's doing it. Sound's dire but since I've had a vocal score since I was a boy, I don't mind.

Handley had an officiial post with the BBC CO - one of those 'made-up' titles. "Regular conductor 'cause we like him". Greatest moment I suppose was a Prom where they did RVW6 to great acclaim!

On Classic FM (yes, I know.....) at 9.00 p.m. tonight:
'Catherine Bott marks the centenary of the death of composer, teacher and music historian Hubert Parry, demonstrating that there's more to him than Jerusalem and showcasing a recently released recording of his string quartets'

Unfortunately, Classic FM's catch-up service is rather limited and doesn't include the Parry programme.

Last night's excellent performance of the 5th symphony at the RAH, and the limited availability of recordings, lead me to wonder in passing whether anybody out there knows why Naxos released a fine performance of just the 2nd symphony.

There’s that fine single release on Chandos.

Parry is CoTW next week, and at 6.45 p.m. on Radio 3 tomorrow Simon Heffer will be putting the case for a reassessment of his works.

                              Who's David Heffer?
Simon Heffer has long been a champion of English composers who - at least in his eyes - are unjustly neglected or undervalued.
