I've liked what I've heard of Xanakis' music and I've been eying this up.
Available as a Hi-Res (24/192) download for a reasonable price for 2.5 hours of music on Qobuz sublime.
Can some of the forum's Xenakis likers give me a steer as to whether this is a good buy for £20.59 or a good bye to hard earned cash?
Are these some of his best pieces?
I would very much appreciate a steer.
Thank you in anticipation......

They are all essential Xenakis though, and classic recordings. Syrmos and Polytope de Montréal are explorations of massed sound textures (for strings and for 4 orchestras respectively). Kraanerg was written as a ballet and is Xenakis's longest composition, using a chamber orchestra combined in various ways with prerecorded and electronically transformed orchestral sounds. Medea and Oresteia consist of choruses and incidental music for classical dramas (by Seneca and Aeschylus respectively) and are accordingly written in a more "archaic" style than the other works. Are they some of his best pieces? Certainly.
I feel, on balance, that I'd do well to acquire these recordings and take it from there.

I listened to some Xenakis recently -- Tetras. I'd forgotten how wonderful it is!
I went back to it because I read a review of a quartet concert with some Parra and Xenakis, and some Cage I think. The reviewer, who spent most time talking about the Parra, said at the end that the most memorable and striking thing in the concert was Tetras. I'm nor surprised!
