It’s a sort of “review of the literature” piece, but nevertheless is an impressively magisterial piece of work, one of the most stimulating things by Pace that I’ve read. He gives me the impression of having a good grasp of a lot of literature - though I’m hardly qualified to assess this really!

Which version of Terrain?
We are fortunate that there are several or more on youtube. I used to have the disk with the fourth string quartet & more where it's played IIRC by the ASKO Ensemble, but it got stolen. Now I only have the ELISION recording. Anyway it's a fine piece and I have a copy of the score.
