Ok, no problem. Maybe we can just get on with it. Bite the bullet and all that. I was finding it hard to keep up!

And thanks for all your work, very much appreciated.

What an exhilaratingly anarchic thread in the common quest for further forum order and advancement ..

Great idea from Beefy and some great laughs along the way.

I see Dave has mentioned the copy/paste solution to the accent side-issue. Not all of us are would-be revolutionaries carrying the over-priced, smart-ass capitalist 'fones' of the bourgeoisie and it is just as easy (and often quicker than trying to remember a long-forgotten keyboard code) to copy/paste via one's favourite search engine.

Wiki is often a convenient site to access the full and correctly accented title of a foreign composer.

I'm glad you found the idea useful, though it sounds as though you may have discovered that already yourself. One thing you might know - as I think you are a Win PC user - is how do you easily get those pesky and very difficult characters in Windows? That 'l' with a stroke through in Polish is a real killer, and maybe such characters really are so hard that a table with arcane codes is the only way. There's always a possibility that someone will come along and invent new characters, and let us be thankful that in the European world we don't have the thousands of symbols in some Asian languages.

Maybe resort to a table of odd codes is the way - though I think it should really be a last resort, rather than a first one.

Back to the anarchy - I'll look at the Composers sub-forum later on to see how it's shaping up.

Though perhaps before I go I'll throw in a little bit more "anarchy" - which might not work on this site with the current software, but could potentially work. If each post had one or more tagx associated with it, then it would be possible in some software systems to have "Smart Threads" which would provide similar utility but perhaps without the same amount of administrative work. Such "Smart Threads" could either be on the server side, or on the client (user) side - but maybe that's a technological step too far right now. I don't know if any bulletin board type software does anything like this yet, but it seems a fairly obvious step forward. It might, however, be search intensive and would require some interesting behind the scenes software infrastructure.

Now - really back to other things - and less anarchy for the moment.

I am just one of the DJs.

If there is a problem with the decks, perhaps I was receiving great advice after all.

(and I have had a wow of a night with BBC Parliament's Select Committees so all is not lost)

Thanks - that's a great link - and not only to Polish.

Suddenly there are all these new threads that if I had the time I'd want to get involved in a discussion on. I guess that's an improvement on arriving, having a look at "What's New?", and deciding I don't have anything to say on any of the ongoing threads. An improvement for me anyway, others' mileage may differ as they say. I guess some of these incipits will fill out once there are relevant concerts/broadcasts/releases.

And not wishing to be picky it would be nice if the format of thread titles on this board were, um, harmonised. If they're going to be in alphabetical order it would be good for the family name always to come first!

                  .

... my cheap'n'cheerful chromebook isn't always the easiest at finding accents, but it can produce the Polish dark L quite simply -

just press alt gr and simultaneously press l or L : ł Ł

Does this work with more sophisticated machines?

That’s what I use, but those other sites that people have linked to are very interesting and useful.

Could I just gently mention post 79 again? I don't know if you have had an opportunity to consider it?
Crickey - I thought I'd finished earlier than I'd anticipated: my tired eyes had simply skimmed over these. In addition to your (very welcome - saves me having to go through the history of the Forum ) suggestions, I've also had a couple of PMs with suggestions to work through, too. All things shall eventually get done - but I had overlooked #79, so thanks for mentioning it.

Also, a trifle - could we have VW in capital letters at a convenient time?
He was, after all, a vehicle for the people. Thank you.[/QUOTE]

... well, on my keyboard it is the key to the right of the space-bar, mirroring the alt key to the left of the space-bar.
