Well I don't do Windows, but surely you have to know the many 3-number codes by heart...? Or have the long list of them handy to choose from? With the latest Mac system, it's all there in front of you so you scarcely break the rhythm of your typing...

Of course I'll have to side with Macusers here, but discussion of diacritics makes a welcome alternative to talk of dire critics on another thread....

Would it be possible to have subheadings visible below the "Composers" subforum title for each composer? Bruckner, Mahler, Beethoven, etc...? Then comments could go where directly apt...?

Is that a re-writing of Zola?

Oh - my character map gives it as Lutosławski, but that's in Ubuntu rather than Windows. Try typing in '0142' instead of just '142'.

There's certainly a Martinu thread that could be moved into this new subforum.

Existing Threads are being copied to the new Forum - there are about twenty Bruckner Threads around in the Waiting Room (and many many thanks to Andrew for all his work so far). If you let me know where the Martinu Thread is, I'll give it a transfer.

I'm not sure that I understand jlw's request. If you click on "Composers", you get an alphabetical list of the composers involved - unfortunately, the alphabet picks up on the title of the Thread, so "Frank Martin" appears under "F", "C P E Bach", under "C", etc. I contemplated changing the name of these Threads to make the surnames appear first, but that would mean that when you reached the Thread, it would have a heading like "Dohnannyi, Erno von", which looks as if the originator of the Thread was taking a school register!

When Bruckner, Anton appears, each of his various Threads will have individual titles (as most of them already do), so "Bruckner 8", "Bruckner 9", "Bruckner 9 Completions", "Bruckner Editions", "Bruckner - didn't he win the Booker Prize?" etc. This will happen to other multi-Threaded composers.

Looks like you got there first.
It's already there, under B for Bohuslav, naturally.

(My preference would be just surnames, as there won't be too many conflicts/duplicates; just having Bach JS and Bach CPE wouldn't look too much like the school register!)

I discovered I had a new superpower ... there'll be no stopping me now!

Except that I can't change the way they appear on the "index/contents" list without changing the name of the Thread from that which the original poster gave it - and I think that that would be an excessive abuse of my new superpowers which I've sworn only to use in the fight against evil. Not to mention a diabolical liberty!

Ferney could always resort to Major and Minor........
