I'm pretty sure that I can remember a Proms performance of Offertorium in which Rattle just held the orchestra playing a chord as noises off (a police car/ambulance) went past.
If so, it was this performance: 4 September 1991.

She was a great colourist. I find some of her works - the Alleluia, the Passion, the viola concerto - thrilling and engrossing.

I've started to listen again to a few recordings of her music, like In croce and the Preludes for cello. Of course, I should have listened to more of her music while she was around. Have heard Offertorium once live, with Baiba Skride as the soloist, some years back.
