    Wallen, Errollyn (b.1958)

Errollyn was Lauren Laverne's guest on Desert Island Discs this morning. I like Erollyn and her music very much; however I was surprised, shocked and moved by her description of what was clearly an unstable and disturbed upbringing, followed through life by many let-downs and personal losses.

Errollyn Wallen, composer, shares the soundtrack of her life with Lauren Laverne.

Worth listening to her recent Composer of The Week. A very interesting eclectic composer who flits between genres with consummate ease - also a suoerb performer.

I have a CD of her music but I haven't heard it recently. It's difficult to assess as I don't know many composers of that generation. I think Judith Weir was born in 1954 and Huw Watkins in 1976.

I think it's virtually obligatory in a radio interview these days to be asked about your childhood abuse/anxiety/dislexia, ad oin Tv of course you're expected to weep on camera.
