    CPE Bach: 3-7 March

No disrespect to César Franck, this week’s Composer of the Week, but I am very much looking forward to next week’s CoW. Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach.

    I too, ds.

I also enjoyed last week's CotW of Rossini. No-one seems to care much for him these days but there is much in his work I like.

I wonder if this is a repeat of the last time CPEB was COTW, which I think was a few years ago. If so, no problem as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, it is a repeat from 2011 (I’ve just checked). Well…. for the anniversary year, they could have made an effort to produce a new series, as there have been many excellent recording since then, including Mahan Esfahani’s first CD. Still, it is as good as new as far as I am concerned, so I shan’t complain. One good thing about being a repeat is that we have the playlist prior to the broadcast (this should be the norm, though).

Anybody listening? Magnificat in its entirety today, although the choice of the performance could have been updated.

[ed.] Plus a couple of wonderful clavichord sonatas.

Yes indeed, DS - wonderful music in itself, but for me a fascination in the idiomatic change about to come, moving music from the contrapuntal to the symphonic era: one of 3 main occasions when such an aesthetic switch has taken place in the history of western music.

I have not listened to it but this appears to be the Friday’s programme on the original broadcast.

Many thanks for that. It's certainly better than nothing, though unlike the 4 episodes re-broadcast last week in HD Sound (320kbps AAC_LC with a sample rate of 44.1kHz) that 5th episode is only 128kbps HE-AAC with a sample rate of 48kHz. Still, beggars can't be choosers.

I couldn't find the 5th of the episodes for COTW CPE Bach in the iPlayer schedule, or indeed in the R3 schedule for last week. Was it broadcast?

Maybe I should download the podcast, in the hope of gleaning at least something from that episode.

It was not re-broadcast last Friday, due to Ravel Day. However, the link provided by doversoul, and quoted on my recent message, was active at the times of posting. I see that it is no longer so. Look out for a PM from me.
