Tippett and Babbitt also suffer from "missing t syndrome": at the 1982 Musica Nova Festival in Glasgow, Carter's great contemporary (and, IMO, his only equal amongst his compatriots) sat forlornly through a public discussion with his name plate announcing him as "Milton Babbit".

Rupert P Matley
Such as his name is pronounced, people suggesting Samuel Scheidt are likely to be thought of as 'taking the Michael' but I actually would like his music selected for CotW, seeing as (maybe for the obvious reason) he's not been featured before.

How about Franz Krommer? He wrote a few hundred works. But I don't know how interesting his life was.
Actually I have suggested to CoTW that we could have a week of Canterbury Rock. And why not, we had Bebop?Pacta sunt servanda !!!

HARRIET HAVARD
COTW at 70
To use the format of the quiz section of Essential Classics:
There is one composer who has never been the subject of COTW:
He is English
He is still alive
He holds the record for having written more symphonies of any British composer alive or dead. 85 at the last count.
He has written more than a dozen concerti.
He has composed numerous works for Radio, television, and the stage.
He has an International reputation
Yet I have not seen his name mentioned in any messages in this forum, or heard any of his works played on Radio 3- despite the fact his music is both
original, full of meaning, and more importantly, beautiful.
His name....Derek Bourgeois.
For anyone not familiar with his work, I would suggest they listen to the second movements of his trombone concerto and concerto for timpani. And
then their is his stays in the head Serenade, which 3 breakfast played at my request a few weeks ago.
Needless to say I have suggested him to Composer of the Week, for their 70th Anniversary show.

Sorry for the misuse of the word "their". Won't happen again. Should have read my comments before I posted them. Silly me.
